Domaining Then And Now... Look at the time

When I first started domaining in 03 it was because I saw the potential that a web address could have on customers, competitors, & overall ROI. At $6 a name per year, I figured even if a domain could generate .50 cents a month that at least I could cover my initial investment, and hope for a raised public awareness so the value of my domain name would surely increase.
Five years later I can honestly say that I can cover my yearly domain registration fees, as well as put a little money back into my online business plan for advertising, software, hosting fees, contracted web work, or just buying a nicer PC or laptop. Whatever the case is... I feel pretty good about my current online money situation. Hopefully you all feel the same about yours, if not you should go back and read some of my earlier post on this blog to recap or refreshen some of your Online Money101 skills.
In the mean time I will continue to post about some newer methods of online money or some other related domain name topics & headlines. Until then keep a positive attitude toward your domaining goals, and don't forget to keep searching for the domains that when nurtured properly provide extra revenue beyond yearly fees.

Geodomain Convention Set For Chicago

A convention for geodomainers is set for July 10-12th in Chicago at the City Center. The event will be a great opportunity for the Midwest community of domainers like Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, etc... to attend this event. Geodomains are city related domains, they can be as specific as MilwaukeeDodgeball.com or as general as Illinois.com
Tickets are available thru AssociatedCities.com and cost about $600 for the 3 day event. This might be a little hefty for beginner domainers, but the learning experience and potential contacts you generate could help pay for itself. If nothing else, hopefully after reading this post you looked up a few local geodomains and found one or two still available for the taking.

Online Money Flowing Into My Wallet

It has been a couple of years since I started the Online Money 101 website for the public. Since then I have dabbled in a few different areas of the Internet:

Domain Names - I now own over 250 domain names
Blogs - I currently run 3 blogs on a regular basis, this being one.
Websites - I still develop my good domains into websites, probably close to 50 of the 250 are developed for use.
Parking - I will always park my undeveloped domains for extra money.
eBay - I don't eBay like I once did, but I am anxious to teach my wife how to.
Squidoo - I still Squidoo here or there, and do have over 50 lenses up & running.
Amazon - I still love using Amazon to sell products on my websites.
ClickBank - I am sorry, I never thought the get rich quick info would sell... But damn they do!

Regardless of my choices I still have a pretty nice flow of income from many different resources. I hope after all this time you have at least ventured into a couple of these forms of Online Money. I can't tell you how nice it is to open the mail today versus a few years ago:)

Turn your domain into an IPO

Fusu has every wanna be domainer talking about the Internet "gold rush" again. This time it seems the gold lies in shares of domain names, more recently FUSU.com started offering shares of top level domains for purchase. The concept is very similar to how the stock market works: Take your domain public, in which case people purchase shares of your domain and profit at the time of sale or buy into a domain and cash out at the time of sale.
This concept of domain shareholding seems to be a great new concept for the domain industry. Hopefully I can not only make some money becoming a shareholder of Flowers.mobi but at least the residuals from the parking income that is split amongst shareholders will cheer me up while I'm waiting for my domain to go public soon. If not the ability to buy a few FUSU masterish type domains still awaits, I see someone already owns FUSUtips.com maybe domainshareholders.com is still out there...

More Squidoo Madness - Online Money 101

Lately Squidoo has exploded into Yahoo search rankings, this is great news for Squidoo fans. My personal Squidoo lenses have being doing pretty nice on conversion sales, however I dont care for the recent layout changes they incorporated. SquidWords has added a lot of new Squidoo graphics, banners & HTML tricks to their website to help customize the Squidoo page layouts, the graphics are free to anyone interested in making more money from their Squidoo lenses.

The WhyPark Google Slap

Sorry for not posting recently... I was a little depressed after finding out that WhyPark suffered the infamous "Google Slap." The google slap involves Google disliking a particular site, and not allowing their ads to be displayed on certain sites. This recently happened to my favorite form of Online Money; WhyPark. WhyPark serves content rich websites which allow adsense users to paste their adsense ads to turnkey websites.
Currently WhyPark is in the process of creating it's own ad network, this is pretty exciting to all of us whyparker's who have lost a lot of online money in the last 2 months. I personally have suffered 3 figure losses just in WhyPark alone. This new ad network should create one more additional sources of Online Money for whypark members.

I Report that iReport.com has reportedly been sold.

This week added another nice domain name sale in the 2008 books. iReport.com sold for a whopping $750,000 that's the largest sale of the year so far. It looks like 2008 might be a stellar year for domain name sales. ireport.com isn't even that appealing of a domain name by common standards. Usually the direct navigational domains are the one's that fetch big money i.e... business.com, vodka.com, sex.com, etc.. this should make everyone in the domain name industry happier knowing that corporations ARE willing to throw big money after domain names.

The Dot Org Comeback

Some people still like to believe the old myth about all the good domains being registered already. I have recently been registering a lot of .org domain names. The .org has the same cost as a any other top level domain, but somehow offers a higher credibility than most other domain names. Google Radio Ads Hit The Air

Google has always been one of my most lucrative forms of online money. I love using adsense or adwords to maximize & monetize my websites. Today however I fell in love again with Google. Google now offers radio ads for its marketing members to use. I ran through the google radio ads tutorial. It is just as easy to do as the adwords network. The greatest thing about the new ad platform, is that for a weekly budget of $10.00 I can now advertise on the radio.

Granted currently there are limited stations available to place the radio advertising on. But as time goes on more & more will become part of the network. This is one of the greatest ad systems I have seen in a while. I have always wanted to do some radio advertising, but couldn't afford the outrageous bill that went with the air play. Now anyone can advertise on the google radio ad network.

This is going to help anyone who is interested in online money. You can set the times, stations, listener counts, etc... If you cant turn the radio into a cash cow. You are definitely in the wrong business. I mean, you can now have a captive audience listening to your websites advertisement at work, in the car, at home, at the gym... you name it. This will be a true money maker to those that act fast. As time goes on, the cost & competition will become more.

New Form Of Squidoo Money

Squidoo has come up with a new method of money making. SquidFlix is the newest squidoo money maker to be released by Squidoo. SquidFlix allows squidoo users to review their "favorite or worst" movies of all time. This is a pretty cool option for squidoo users looking to generate some extra money. SquidFlix currently runs a list of Top 100 favorites & hates. I like the new methods they come up with to keep squidoo fresh, and to help lensmasters make a little extra money.

There are one of two approaches to making money with the squidflix program. First you can try to pick a real popular movie that most people would like, and hope that it gets voted into the Top 100. However I think everyone has taken that approach already. The second approach would be to pick an extremely obscure movie and create a squidflix lens on that one. I think the more obscure the movie, the better the chance of it reaching a top 10 status in the search engine rankings. If your lens can rate high on the search engines outside of squidoo, you are on track to making some real money.

Seth Godin Slaps Online Money 101

Seth Godin of Squidoo lays the slap down on Online Money 101. In one of my recent post I stated that Squidoo Lensmasters recieve only a small percentage of the revenue generated by their squidoo lenses. I received a comment to my post from the founder of Squidoo Seth Godin. Seth replies "A small percentage?
is 50% a small percentage?"

First I'd like to note that I am actually a Squidoo user. So I would be calling the kettle black if I said Squidoo Sucks. It doesn't suck at all.
Back to the point at hand 50% is neither large nor small. I am no math wizard, but I believe 50% is Half. As I said in my post: "Oatmeal is better than no meal."

And to you Seth, thanks for visiting my blog & commenting. I appreciate the fact that you stay on top of your company or any post relating to it. Squidoo Truth - Can you make money on Squidoo?

I have had a few emails from OnlineMoney101.com members asking if there is any money to be made on Squidoo. Squidoo offers a lot of tools to make money with. However the real money isn't on squidoo, it's on everything outside of squidoo. What I mean is that squidoo only offers a small percentage of the money made from each lens that generates a sale or click. Which is great for the average Joe, who doesn't have: a website, parking pages, hosting, html code, affiliate programs, internet marketing knowledge, etc... If the only thing a person has is a membership to squidoo; well good for them. (Oatmeal is better than no meal) But me on the other hand I like to eat, so I choose to keep 100% of the money I make.

Here is how to make money on Squidoo:

Sign up for affiliate programs. These are people whose products you can sell on your squidoo lenses. Everytime you make a sale, you can keep 100% of the money you make. We offer a great list of affiliate programs which can help you generate extra money on squidoo. All you have to do is pick a product from the list of merchants they provide you.
You then get the html code.(This may seem complicated, but it's really not that hard.) Html is the webmasters version of placing things on the web.
You highlight & copy the advertisers html.
Then go to your intro section on the appropriate lens.
Select the html option in the lower right hand side. A box with html code will pop up with your text that you have written.
Simply go to the end of the text and paste the products html code you copied earlier.
Click Update.

And you should be good to go. (OnlineMoney101.com Tip: a great way to learn html is play with a blogger acount like this one. It's FREE. And you can apply the knowledge to other ventures) The amount of money made from selling products through affiliate programs can be tremendous.

I must emphasize the importance of parking your domain names for money. If you are a Member you know to park your domain names to generate income. Once you have your domain names registered you should immediately park them. Once they are parked you can start generating income from the ads that are parked on your domain name.

Remember this is an investment. You are looking to generate enough parking income to pay for the domain name registration a year from now. If you can accomplish this. You can become one step closer to financial freedom.

Think about the comparison between Domain Names and Real Estate. A domain name that covers it's renewal fee of $6. Is like a single family home that is completely paid off generating yearly income. But with a domain name, you never have to worry about any maintenance problems. You just collect a check and let the value increase year after year.

Again all this only applies if you want to keep the domain name. If it doesn't generate any hits. And you don't want to pay the registration fee. You can just simply drop it from the hosting company and avoid any fee. But I wouldn't worry about that until next year.

Keep searching for the direct navigational domain names. They are still out there. And please keep your positive attitude going. Do not let people discourage you from making Online Money. It's all around us.

Domain Name Parking - Select your Settings

We have had some questions as to setting up your parking sites. Let me cover the most common questions. This info is based upon our Hosting index. (Remember #1 is our choice)

1. Go to Hosting Company. You need to change your "DNS" settings on your hosting company. The new "dns" settings need to be changed from hosting company to parking company. They will change the settings within about 3 hours.

2. Go to Parking Company. You need to go to the parking company and add your domain name for parking. This will usually take them a few hours to verify and create your parking page.

3. Customize your parking page. Choose Domain Management. Then select Category Overview.
At this point you can choose the categories you would like to appear on your parking page.

4. Edit your domain description. Click on the actual domain name. At this point a box should appear and you change the sales description of your domain. Remember to mention selling points: Is it a direct navigational name. What could the name be used for. Is it priced to sell.
These points can help you generate more interest from potential buyers.

5. Beware of any offer explaining that they are interested in buying your domain name. But they would like you to use their own personal domain appraiser.(they estimate the domain's rough market value) Within the first week of selling my domains I was offered $5800. This was by a gentlemen who claimed to own a software company. And would like to buy my domain as long as it was appraised by his domain appraiser only.(Because he was an affiliate of their program. Meaning he gets a commission for sending you to the appraiser. Then he changes his mind or never contacts you again.) I myself did not fall for it. However many others unfortunately have.

If you need help most of the hosting companies or parking services we recommended should have a FAQ section. If they don't, you definitely didn't listen to us. Otherwise you would already be making Online Money.
